Spotlight on…Sayeh Nikpay

Birthdate: 9-13-1982

Birth Place: Minnesota

Family: Husband, Bacon, and 3 kids, Isaac, Roya, and Meyrah

Personal strengths: My ability to laugh at myself and not take things too seriously

Personal weaknesses: Bouts of laziness... Reason for joining Northstar: I love running with other people and Claire Kamp Dush convinced me to join. I never ran seriously and when I turned 40 I decided to start. I was running a lot by myself and not really training seriously for anything. I had run a trail half but 13 miles was the longest I had ever run by myself. I learned pretty quickly that I can run a lot farther and faster if I have company.

Favorite running shoes:  Hoka Clifton 9s

Favorite place to run:  Minneapolis Chain of Lakes

Running Goals:

  • Short-term: Get back into training after 5 weeks of pretty inconsistent running while traveling this summer. Run the TC 10 mile in 1:30.
  • Long-term: Run Grandma's again but finish in 4:20.

Proudest Running Achievement: Finishing Grandma's marathon. I REALLY thought I wasn't going to finish and I got through by shutting off my brain and running with the team.

Typical training week, a month or two before a major race: I haven't really done much training, so there's nothing typical really for me. Before Grandma's the taper really psyched me out and I just got really worried that something bad would happen 🙂

Running idol: I don't have one of these yet but I look up to lots of Northstars!

Injuries: None (so far!)PRs:

Non-running Hobbies: Travelling, hiking/trail running, reading with my kids, bicycling, playing the bass, mediocre cross-country skiing.

Anything else interesting you'd like to share? Running and socializing is my stress relief and I love being able to do that with all of you! Thanks for the company and motivation.
