On Saturday, June 29th, we held our Northstar Annual Team Meeting. During this meeting we discussed the current and future state of the club. Throughout the past year, we have continued our focus on building the Northstar brand. We have added apparel items, we have had a strong presence in local races, and we have increased our social media presence. All of these help our local running community know that Northstar Running is part of the scene. We also have continued having fun together as a club. From Smoosh, to travel trips, to happy hours, we have events throughout the year that all can be a part of, including friends and family.
The club continues to run financially lean. Our dues cover our expenses while providing a small amount of cushion. We will continue to grow the club in membership and presence in the local community. For that we need everyone’s help! We have volunteer opportunities throughout the year which allow us to give back. I encourage each and every one of you to make it a priority to help with at least one or two volunteering events each year. It is a rewarding experience helping an event run smoothly by giving a little of your time.
As a benefit of the annual dues, all members have the ability to receive a customized coaching plan. Many of our members have utilized this over the years and have seen great success. If you are interested in more information, please let us know!
This past February, we hosted the 3rd Annual Twin Cities Smoosh Event. This was a fundraiser for Children’s Minnesota. We raised over $1000 this year with a lifetime total of over $2300 raised! This has been a fun event over the years and we’re excited to see it grow. We already have the 2020 date on the calendar - 2/15/20 @ Bauhaus Brew Labs! Please keep an eye out for more details as we get closer. We always need volunteers and teams for the event!
Lastly, this year, we held the bi-annual Board of Directors elections. We had 5 open positions with only one current Board member running for re-election. I encourage you all to thank Brian, Doug, Rob, and Jeannie for their hard work over the last 2 years. They have given of their time to make this club what it is today. We had a good turnout for voting and 5 members were elected. Members of Northstar vote for the people to be on the Board and then the Board decides who will hold what positions. We held our first Board meeting on July 7th to confirm positions. I’m pleased to introduce the new Board: Matt Schmidt (Treasurer), Ellen Kendall (Secretary), Cindy Ravn (Officer), Robbie Skantz (Officer), and Meghan Doherty (President).
If you have any questions about the Annual Meeting, Northstar’s current state or future state, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or anyone else on the Board.
Thank you all for your part in making Northstar the success it is!
